In every experience there is the reality and there is the interpretation that we make of it, depending upon our own psychic structure. There is the Rorschach inkblot, and there is the patient's projection which gives meaning to the inkblot. There is the external reality, and there is the interpretation we give to it. (...) The reality then is not simply an external entity. Rather, it is a combination of an external entity and the meaning and intepretation that our internal psychic structure gives to it.
